Dishwasher spray arm bearing assembly showing wear damage and mineral deposits

Fix Your Dishwasher's Non-Rotating Spray Arm

When your dishwasher's spray arms stop rotating, dishes don't get properly cleaned. This is one of the most common dishwasher issues and often has a simple solution.

Why Spray Arms Stop Rotating

  • Mineral deposits: Hard water buildup clogs the spray holes
  • Food debris: Particles block water flow and bearing movement
  • Bearing wear: The center post bearing becomes damaged or corroded
  • Broken coupling: The connection between water pump and spray arm fails
  • Water pump failure: Insufficient pressure prevents arm rotation

Cleaning the Spray Arm

Often, cleaning the spray arm resolves the issue:

  1. Remove the spray arm by twisting or unclipping it (check your model's manual)
  2. Hold the spray arm up to a bright light and look through each hole
  3. Use a toothpick or paperclip to carefully clear any debris from each hole
  4. Soak the spray arm in white vinegar for 30 minutes to dissolve mineral deposits
  5. Rinse thoroughly and reinstall the spray arm

When Professional Service is Needed

If cleaning doesn't help, you may need professional service to replace the bearing assembly, water pump, or control valve. Contact Nika Appliance Repair for a diagnosis.
